I love new months. It’s like a clean slate. I covered all my bills for the month (assuming my FTP withdrawal gets here in a timely manner). I have renewed my confidence in my game and plugged some leaks. I’m excited for this month. I’m refocused and ready to grind. I purposely took a break from serious grinding the past 3 days just to rest up for June.
I’m getting ready to hit the sack. I want to get up early and get some chores out of the way. I have to do some work on the yard and I have to go to the landfill. I want to get all that crap out of the way and hopefully hit the tables by 2:00 p.m. This will give me 4 hours to grind until I go out for the evening. I have some friends playing softball tomorrow evening and I’ll be attending.
I’ve really been bitten by the golf bug this weekend too. I love golf. One of my favorites of the stupid sports. Stupid sports are bowling, billiards, golf, and poker. All of which I’m fairly competent at (or used to be). Several years ago, I was a golf nut, playing upwards of 5-6 days a week. I had a membership at the local Elks club which has a nice 9 hole course. I would go almost every evening and play until dark. During one summer, with a little help on my short game from the club pro at the time, I went from shooting in the 110’s to shooting mid to low 80’s with a 77 thrown in for good measure (my personal best score).
Anyway, golf died out over the past few years for me. My usual golfing crew pretty much all quit or just kind of went their separate ways. Some of my buddy’s over the past 2 years have really gotten into it. I kept telling them that I would play, but just never would pull the trigger. 1.) Golf is expensive and 2.) I figured I would get hooked again, and 3.) I hadn’t swung a golf club in 2 years. We were originally going to go to the range yesterday so I could get back into the swing of things and play on a later day with them. Somehow those plans turned into “screw it…we’re playing!”. So I played. It could have been worse. My short game was horrible, and I gave up using a driver until I can work on it, but I shot 100 exactly with only taking 2 off the 1st tee and no mulligans after that. Not bad for having to tee off with 3 iron.
I went to the range and had some promising results with the driver today. We were going to actually play this evening, but the course was closed due to “wet grounds”. The course looked fine to me. Anyway, it looks like we are going to start making Thursdays a regular golf day as you can play unlimited golf at the Elks club for $20 on Thursdays after 3:00 p.m.
Anyway, I got off on a bit of a tangent there. I’m going to grind like a mofo this month. I want to hit at least 75,000 hands in the cash games. I also want to start learning PLO. I’ve been watching some of Stinger’s videos on Cardrunners. He makes it look so easy. He raises, flops the nuts, some idiot pays him off with top pair, no redraws. I’ll be starting out at the super micros as I learn PLO, but if all goes well, I’m not opposed to making it my main game. Table selection doesn’t seem to be tough with that game as almost all PLO tables seem to have soft spots. I think I’m missing a lot of value by only playing NLHE. I’ve always done good in mixed events. I love PLO (as well as other forms of poker). Any PLO hands that are played will not be counted in my 75K hands goal.
